They Are Gathering

A guilt-racked captain suffering from PTSD, a linguistic genius with Asperger’s Syndrome, a cocky drug-addicted pilot, an over-cautious government official, an introverted engineer looking to start a new life, a doctor who’s fled from a technophobic spiritual colony and a scientist from an underground species of extremophiles form the unlikely crew of science fiction’s newest adventure series: Curiosity.

The research vessel Curiosity was decommissioned a quarter of a century ago, but as the only starship within range, her and her crew of misfits are tasked with solving the mystery of an ancient alien artefact and preventing the destruction of the planet Earth.

Can they learn to work as a team and put their lives on the line in time to save the human race from the devastating effects of an amplified Gamma Ray Burst? Will they uncover the secrets of the shadowy alien race behind the planned omnicide?

Join the crew of the starship Curiosity to find out.

I'm excited about my third novel. As a lifelong Science Fiction fan, I'm not sure why it's taken me until my third novel to delve into traditional Sci-Fi. My second novel,
K A R A is a fantasy story set a hundred years in the future and so contains many Sci-Fi elements, but this one will be full-on Sci to the Fi. You know, with starships and aliens and all that cool future tech.

But the main reason I'm so passionate about this story is that it's the first ensemble story I've written and I love being able to switch from one character's perspective to another's. It helps to ease what can sometimes be a painstaking grind of telling an A to B story entirely from a single person's point of view.

I won't lie -- I'm psyched about the cast of characters in this book. Each has their own, unique personality traits which gives me a broad palette to work with and sets up the possibility of many interesting interactions. Sure, the starship Curiosity will fly, but so will sparks!

Some authors are great at holding back the premise of their novels until they are ready to be published. I'm not that kind of author, although I sometimes wish I were.

My intention is for this book to be the first in a series, but for a series to be worthwhile it needs readers willing to follow this bunch of characters from one adventure to the next.

So, I'd like to put the feelers out early on. I'm about 27,000 words deep into this thing and it would be nice to know if there are people out there interested in reading it.

If you enjoy stories about the crew of a spaceship working together to solve a problem, if you're a fan of Star Trek or Star Wars or Firefly, you might like this.

I'll post more details and progress reports as I go.
